Seasonal roads change the loop
Trail Ridge Road and Independence Pass are seasonal connections. A source May–October label is not an opening calendar. Check the actual crossing and a paved alternative before booking the next overnight. [2][5][4]
Use a car for these multi-region saved routes, then choose each day by actual driving and access. Denver city travel, mountain shuttles and primitive 4WD roads are different transport decisions.

Planning ranges in normal conditions: Denver–Estes Park about 1½–2 hours; Estes Park–Glenwood Springs via the seasonal park crossing about 4–5 hours before sightseeing; Glenwood–Aspen about 1–1½ hours; Aspen–Great Sand Dunes via open Independence Pass about 4–5 hours; dunes–Colorado Springs about 2½–3½ hours. These are broad editorial allowances, not live routing. Add traffic, park queues, parking, stops and weather; re-route when a pass is closed. [2][5][4]
Allow roughly 1½–2 hours Montrose–Telluride, 1–1½ hours Telluride–Ouray and 3–4 hours Ouray–Mesa Verde entrance via US-550 and Durango, before sightseeing or park-road driving. Mesa Verde–Great Sand Dunes is roughly 4–5 hours from the entrance, longer from the cliff dwelling area. Verify live directions and reserve a generous arrival margin. [4]
Do not use Medano Pass as a standard rental-car shortcut. NPS requires suitable high-clearance 4WD; AWD is not interchangeable. Rental terms and current conditions are separate checks. [10]
Maroon Bells, Bear Lake access and Pikes Peak have distinct transport arrangements. Check current operations; the Pikes Peak operator page says its shuttle season resumes in May 2027. [8][1][13]
Not for an ordinary paved-road itinerary in suitable conditions. Medano Pass is a separate high-clearance 4WD road; do not include it without the right vehicle, permissions and current access. [10]
No. They are broad planning ranges for normal conditions. Check current directions, road alerts and weather for each travel day. [4]
