Where to stay in Banff and Lake Louise

Split the Rockies stay when the route moves north: Banff for town and Bow Valley days, Lake Louise for the lakes and the start of the Icefields Parkway. Canmore is a separate town outside the park; Lake Louise village and the lakeshore are different bases.

Make the trip fit you

Choose where the day begins

Banff town: restaurants between mountain days

Choose a Banff Avenue base such as Moose Hotel & Suites when town evenings and local buses matter. Moose currently lists parking and local Roam passes; check inclusions for your reservation. A local pass is not a Lake Louise or Moraine Lake booking. The saved route instead uses Fairmont Banff Springs, in its resort setting near Bow Falls. [10][13][1]

Canmore: a real alternative, with more driving

Basecamp Resorts Canmore belongs to the wider Banff source group, but is in Canmore. Compare its accommodation layout and total for your dates, then account for the drive into Banff National Park on each park day. It is not a Banff town hotel and a room reservation does not replace park entry. [11][4]

Lake Louise village: sleep near the next chapter

Lake Louise Inn and Post Hotel & Spa give you village bases, not rooms on the lake. They fit a pause before the Parkway and a planned lake visit. Lake Louise Inn lists a summer shuttle to the lakes: ask about its dates, reservations, fare and boarding point. Do not assume a hotel shuttle and a Parks Canada reservation are interchangeable. [14][15][1]

Lake Louise lakeshore: pay for the setting you want

Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is the saved route’s lakeshore choice. Its position changes how easily you can spend time beside Lake Louise, but does not give every hotel guest permission to drive to Moraine Lake. Ask the property how its actual arrival, parking and lake transfers work for your booking. [12][1]

Keep the saved seven nights in the right places

The eight-day route selects three nights at Fairmont Banff Springs, two at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and two at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. Day 4 already sleeps at Lake Louise; Day 6 already sleeps in Jasper. These are curated starting choices, not confirmed rooms. Don’t use the broad day-region labels as the overnight location.

Reserve lake access before fixing the day

Moraine Lake Road is closed to personal vehicles, with specific authorized exceptions. Parks Canada shuttle reservations and park entry are separate; the standard shuttle departs from the ski-area Park and Ride. The 2026 shuttle season has ended. Check the official page for the next published season before committing a non-refundable lake day. [1][4]

Questions before you go

Can I stay in Banff for the whole Rockies trip?

You can use Banff for local days, but the saved eight-day route moves to Lake Louise and then Jasper. Keeping one Banff base would add substantial backtracking and would be a different itinerary. Choose a shorter Banff-and-lakes trip if you do not want to move hotels.

Does a Lake Louise hotel booking include Moraine Lake access?

Do not assume so. Moraine Lake Road has specific access rules; most visitors use a reserved shuttle or a licensed commercial operator. Check the exact property’s arrangements and the official rules for your dates. [1]

Should I choose a campground instead?

Compare the exact campground, site type, vehicle length and seasonal dates before substituting it for a hotel. A tent site, an RV site and a hotel room are different products. Reserve the campground separately; a park pass does not reserve a site. [4]
