Pura Tirta Empul is a Hindu water temple located in the village of Manukaya outside of Ubud. The temple is dedicated to Vishnu, one of the major Hindu gods, and is famous for its holy spring water, which is believed to have healing properties. The temple's central courtyard contains a large pool fed by 12 fountains, each with its own spout. Visitors are invited to enter the pool and bathe under the fountains as a form of purification. According to local legend, the holy spring water at Pura Tirta Empul was created by the god Indra, who struck the ground with his thunderbolt. The temple has been in use since the 10th century, and the current structures date back to the 19th century. The temple is a popular destination for both tourists and locals, and it is often crowded with people who come to purify themselves and seek blessings. Be advised that you are required to wear a sarong and sash as a sign of respect. Sarongs and sashes are available for rent at the entrance to the temple. It is also important to be respectful of the local customs and rituals, such as not entering the water without first making an offering to the gods.
