8 days in Austria

Austria Ski Safari

I like Austria most when the trip moves between distinct experiences: Vienna’s ceremonial winter glow, Salzburg’s historic lanes, and Tyrol’s mountain culture. Rail keeps the cities and resort gateways connected, while local lifts and shuttles make the ski days feel focused rather than like one long road trip.

Austria · Make the plan fit your dates

Three ski bases. Four main mountain days.

Two nights in Innsbruck, two in Kitzbühel and three in St. Anton. The route goes east to Kitzbühel before returning west toward the Arlberg, so the second hotel move retraces part of the corridor.

Choose the right terrain

A confident skier’s circuit is not a lesson plan. Start with suitable open pistes, book instruction when needed and check the return connections before crossing into another sector.

Keep the high-mountain day flexible

The saved “Valluga Summit and Run of Fame” is a choice between outings. The full Run of Fame can take more than one day at a relaxed pace. A Valluga II descent with ski equipment requires a qualified guide; it is not an ordinary marked-piste return.

2026/27 season and pass boundaries

St. Anton / core Ski Arlberg plans 2 December 2026–18 April 2027. Open terrain and connections depend on the day’s conditions. Rendl is a separate lift base within the Ski Arlberg area.

Kühtai plans 27 November 2026–11 April 2027. KitzSki’s full linked circuit is planned for 11 December 2026–29 March 2027; early and late operation covers fewer sectors.

Do not assume one local pass covers this safari. Compare Kühtai / Innsbruck-area products, KitzSki and Ski Arlberg separately, including each product’s dates and transport terms. Use the current Kühtai bus planner; older downloadable ski-bus tables still show 2025/26 dates.

The transfer days are part of the eight-day plan, not additional skiing days. Compare the ski bases →

Your 8-day route at a glance

Explore Austria

Start with this expert-curated route, then customize the days and stops in your trip. Stays below are suggestions; availability depends on your dates.

Day 1Innsbruck ArrivalInnsbruck

Plan the day: Arrive in Innsbruck, settle in and orient yourself around the Golden Roof. Arrange rental equipment and the next morning’s mountain transport.

If plans change: Keep the town walk short after a late arrival; do not count arrival as a ski day.

Things to do

  1. Innsbruck Old Town and Golden Roof1-3h
Day 2Kühtai Ski DayInnsbruck

Plan the day: Take the current bus to Kühtai and plan a full mountain day. Check the return departure and whether your pass and guest card cover this connection.

If plans change: Use an Innsbruck city day or a lesson matched to ability when conditions do not suit.

Things to do

  1. Kühtai Ski Day4-7h
Day 3Rail to KitzbühelKitzbühel

Plan the day: Travel east to Kitzbühel, with changes where required by your dated rail connection. Check in, then use the museum and old town as a gentle arrival outing.

If plans change: Skip the museum if the transfer runs late; check its actual opening day.

Things to do

  1. Museum Kitzbühel and Old Town1-3h
Day 4KitzSki Mountain DayKitzbühel

Plan the day: Use the open KitzSki sectors that fit your level. The full linked circuit is planned for 11 December 2026–29 March 2027, subject to conditions.

If plans change: Choose a smaller open sector or a town break; an advertised season start does not mean every connection is running.

Things to do

  1. KitzSki Mountain Day4-7h
Day 5Rail to St. AntonSt. Anton am Arlberg

Plan the day: Travel west to St. Anton, retracing part of the Innsbruck corridor. Protect roughly half a day for the hotel move and rail connections.

If plans change: Go straight to the hotel if delayed; the museum is optional around its opening hours.

Things to do

  1. Museum St. Anton1-2h

Suggested stay

Day 6Galzig and St. ChristophSt. Anton am Arlberg

Plan the day: Start with Galzig and St. Christoph only where open pistes and ability fit. Learn the return route and last lift before extending the day.

If plans change: Book instruction or choose a shorter marked-piste day rather than following a circuit beyond your level.

Things to do

  1. Galzig and St. Christoph Ski Day4-7h

Suggested stay

Day 7Valluga and Run of FameSt. Anton am Arlberg

Plan the day: Choose a summit-view outing OR a Run of Fame circuit. The full circuit is a long undertaking; Valluga II with ski equipment requires a qualified guide.

If plans change: Repeat familiar open pistes. Weather, closures or ability can rule out the high-mountain plan; do not force both headline experiences.

Things to do

  1. Valluga Summit and Run of Fame4-7h

Suggested stay

Day 8Spa and DepartureSt. Anton am Arlberg

Plan the day: Allow WellCom only if its current hours and your onward train fit. Reserve enough time to collect luggage and return rental equipment.

If plans change: Leave directly for the station when needed; the saved plan has no final overnight.

Things to do

  1. Arlberg WellCom Recovery Session2-3h
