Getting around Rome

Walk within a neighbourhood, then use transit or a taxi for the longer legs. Rome’s saved routes are public-transport and walking plans; a car adds access and parking decisions to a compact sightseeing trip.

Make the trip fit you

Make the day work before filling it

Plan a chain, not a zigzag

Use a centre walk, an Ancient Rome block, a Vatican day or Trastevere/Gianicolo as separate building blocks. MAXXI in Flaminio and the Monte Mario hotel are additional transport legs.

Choose the actual city ticket

ATAC’s Metrebus Rome products cover several urban services, with product-specific conditions. Check the current validity, validation method and disruptions rather than choosing from an old fare table. [8]

Treat Fiumicino as its own connection

The airport is outside the ordinary city sightseeing circuit. ATAC’s conditions exclude special Fiumicino airport links from ordinary city tickets. QC Roma is in Fiumicino too, but a spa session is not an airport transfer. [9][10]

Leave margin at the Vatican

The museum entrance and the Basilica approach are separate. Do not assume a direct internal shortcut or that a museum ticket bypasses Basilica access checks. [2][4]

Questions before you go

Do I need a car for Rome?

The saved Fyno city routes use public transport and walking. Choose a car only for a separate journey after checking parking and access restrictions at your actual accommodation.

Does a Rome city ticket include Fiumicino airport?

Do not assume it does. ATAC’s conditions exclude special Cotral and Trenitalia Fiumicino airport links from ordinary city tickets. Check the actual service and ticket you plan to use. [9]

Sources & planning notes

Fyno’s saved routes and website catalog were reviewed on November 5, 2026. Operational sources were checked on that date; reconfirm admission, closures and transport for your visit. Time allowances are editorial planning budgets, not measured journey times. Map pins are locations, not walking routes.
