Getting around
90% of Namibian roads are unpaved, so we strongly recommend renting a 4x4 SUV to comfortably explore all the regions. Many adventurers opt for a 4x4 camper to enjoy unique Namibian campsites.
Language
Namibia's official language is English, so you won't face any major language barriers. Other languages spoken include Afrikaans and local languages like Oshiwambo, but English is widely understood, particularly in cities and tourist areas. Even in rural areas or smaller towns, most people have at least a basic understanding of English, especially those who work in tourism or hospitality. However, Afrikaans is also widely spoken and understood in many parts of the country. All road signs, public transportation, and tourist information in Namibia are in English, making it very easy for English-speaking visitors to navigate.
Safety
Namibian landscapes are pretty safe to travel. Pickpocketing and mugging are common in Windhoek, so take basic precautions around big cities. Same applies to solo female travelers.
