June to mid-July is the best time to enjoy hiking and avoid crowds. It's cooler than other parts of Italy, so the weather is enjoyable compared to further south.

Fall is beautiful and majestic in the Dolomites. Iconic hikes are still open but it starts becoming chilly at high altitudes.

Winters are beautiful in the Dolomites with plenty of world-class ski resorts, but you won't be able to visit most of the attractions due to snow.

The Dolomites – Hidden Gem of Italy

Located in the heart of the Dolomites, Lago di Braies is a high-alpine emerald-green lake, one of Europe’s most beautiful. The water color and clarity differs slightly based on the season and weather conditions but are mesmerizing at all times.

There are a few ways to explore the lake. You can rent a beautiful wooden row-boat for a unique experience and better views with mountains rising around you (€25/hour). You can also enjoy a relaxing 2 miles long hike around the lake which will take about 1.5 hours to complete. There are more strenuous hiking options around the lake too.

Often dubbed the Queen of the Dolomites, Cortina d'Ampezzo is a chic resort town that combines world-class skiing with stunning summer hikes. The surrounding peaks offer dramatic views that are simply unforgettable.
