Holbox Island is a small, secluded, car-free island that offers pristine beaches, clear turquoise waters, a laid-back atmosphere, and amazing stays, making it a great option for a peaceful and relaxing escape.

If you are exploring the entire peninsula, we recommend spending a relaxing day here, maybe even staying overnight before heading back to Cancun Airport. Isla Holbox is also a great, off-the-beaten-path option for a dedicated long-weekend escape.

The island's beautiful beaches offer opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling. The island is also home to a small fishing village, where you can experience local culture and cuisine. There are a variety of restaurants and cafes on the island serving fresh seafood and other local specialties.

And if you are looking for adventure, there are opportunities for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and even swimming with whale sharks during certain times of the year. You can also take a boat tour to see the island's famous bioluminescent plankton, which glows in the dark and create a stunning visual display in the water.

Overall, Holbox Island is a unique and beautiful destination that offers a little something for everyone.

I’d pick Casa Cat Ba for a stay right by the beach. Being downtown is handy for exploring.

We couldn't believe that a small nearby destination can offer such a diverse and epic adventure. But Yucatan delivered, with its unique mix of beautiful white-sand beaches, stunning nature with wildlife, and Mayan ruins with one of the seven wonders of the world – Chichen Itza. Enjoy!

Casa Cat Ba is an exclusive and authentic Mayan-style villa, hosted by a charming French couple. It was redesigned with local materials and natural colors in a Wabi-Sabi style, resulting in an exotic, stylish, minimalist, and Bohemian Chic vibe. Vintage furniture, local handcrafts, and worldwide artwork give the place a personal and unique touch.

The complimentary breakfast is served at the bar or on the deck and consists of freshly made juices, freshly brewed coffee, and other dishes like yogurt, local fruits, and egg benedicts. There are also freshly made cocktails, beer, or wine at the bar at any time.

Once you arrive in Chiquilá, you can purchase your ferry ticket from one of the many vendors at the port. The ferry ride is is a scenic and enjoyable experience. It takes approximately 20-30 minutes and runs every half hour during the day, with the last ferry departing around 9 PM. The ferry schedule may vary depending on the season, so it's a good idea to check the latest schedule in advance.

Once you arrive on the island, you'll be greeted by the picturesque sight of the main beach and colorful, laid-back town center.
