Wai-O-Tapu is a geothermal wonderland, known for its stunning natural beauty, unique geothermal features, and the vibrant colors of its hot springs and mud pools. This is our favorite geothermal spot in all of New Zealand, so consider shifting your plans to make sure Wai-O-Tapu lands outside of Wednesday or Thursday when the park is closed to the visitors. You can explore a series of walking trails that wind through the park, taking in highlights such as the famous Champagne Pool, the Artist's Palette, and the Lady Knox Geyser, which erupts daily at 10:15 am. There are also guided tours available, as well as a visitor center and cafรฉ on-site.
