Getting around

Rental car is the best way to properly explore the Dolomites. Get a timeless Fiat 500 or a sporty Alfa Romeo to truly enjoy the winding roads of this region.

Language

Italian is the official language in the Dolomites, but in the South Tyrol region, German is also widely spoken. English is commonly spoken by those in the tourism industry, but Italian and German are more prevalent in rural or non-tourist areas. In more remote mountain villages or when dealing with local, non-tourist businesses, English may be less common. Basic Italian or German can help in these areas, especially if you plan to visit less-traveled spots or interact with locals. You can manage with English in major tourist spots, but we recommend learning basic Italian or German for a more authentic experience, especially when visiting more rural areas or smaller villages.

Safety

The Dolomites is one of the safest places in Europe.
