The Old School Lodge is a thoughtfully converted former schoolhouse in Mountain Village above Telluride, turned into a small boutique lodge with strong character and a quiet, residential feel. The historic building's original classroom spaces have been reimagined into distinctive rooms and common areas that give it a personality unlike any other lodging in the area.
Rooms are individually decorated with local art and quality furnishings. The lodge has a hot tub, a communal lounge with a fireplace, and a small breakfast service. Being in Mountain Village, it's steps from the gondola that connects to downtown Telluride.
The conversion of the old schoolhouse — which served Mountain Village's community for decades — was done with care for the building's history, and the result is one of the more genuinely unusual places to sleep in Colorado.
It's ideal for travelers who prioritize character and quiet over amenities, particularly couples and small groups. The gondola access means you're never far from Telluride's restaurants and energy, but the lodge itself is a retreat.
