“Access is via shuttle to Temple of Sinawava (last stop). Renting water shoes, neoprene socks, and a walking stick in Springdale is highly recommended.”

“Always check flash flood conditions before starting as this hike can close suddenly due to weather. You can find the official status page in the expert links section.”

The Narrows is one of the most popular hikes in Zion and offers an unparalleled adventure through a narrow canyon carved by the Virgin River. Towering rock walls rise high above you, sometimes only a few feet apart, creating a dramatic and immersive experience.

The bottom-up version starts at the end of the canyon, where you wade directly through the river as you make your way upstream. You can hike as far as Big Spring without a permit, making it a flexible out-and-back experience depending on your time and energy.

We strongly recommend wearing sturdy waterproof hiking shoes with good grip to protect your feet and provide stability on slippery rocks and in the water. Comfort and fit are key, as you’ll be walking and wading for extended periods.
